To all the women I’ve loved before

..

To all the women I’ve loved before.
I think back on how I could have done more.
I failed due to my immaturity,
I hid behind my insecurity.

I can see how you would have felt betrayed,
We could have solved our issues if I’d stayed.
Running away was a cowardly insult.
A different town found the same result.

Disputes were left unresolved on my part.
I should have revealed what was in my heart.
The result may have ended up the same,
but I’m forever haunted by your name.

I followed my dreams, but at what cost?
I regret my life and now I’m lost.
I understand how I could have done better.
I should have answered your last letter.

  1. Beautiful, raw poem, Dennis! I think we all have relationships we wish we would have handled differently.

    1. Thank you, Yvette, unfortunately, I published the poem when I meant to save it as a draft. The buttons all look the same. I have refined it now. I’m still not sure if it expresses what I wanted in the way I wanted. Of course, I had individuals in mind that the reader doesn’t know about. It was meant as an apology and I think that comes across.
