Familiar

Familiar words
echo through the woods.
I’ve committed them to memory,
of places far and deep —
places traveled
in my sleep.

Familiar dream,
fluttering poplar leaves,
yellow and green in noonday sun —
beautiful face behind a tree,
flirting, smiling
back at me.

Familiar voice
(a giggle sometimes)
startles me from reverie —
a sweet, fragrant, lakeside breeze,
and mournful singing
from the trees.

Familiar path,
in darkness I tread —
lifetimes (maybe more),
holding love within my heart,
whispering your name —
you lead me back
home again.

  1. Lovely poem Dennis! I am imagining a lovely stroll through the woods on a beautiful sunny day. Don’t get to do that often enough! :-)

  2. Your descriptive poetry is amazing. It floors me how you get it just right–precise enough to paint an accurate picture, but not too descriptive, not enough to be a bore.:)

  4. Hello, Dennis,

The imagery in your poems is wonderful.

I want to say thanks for following me at http://www.oldspouse.wordpress.com.

I’d like to add that if you enjoy my “This Old Spouse” column, I think you’ll love this:

It’s a terrifying story called The Oklo Device.

Take a look at the story; see if you get hooked on it, e-mail me at roger.white@tasb.org, and I’ll send you the rest. If you like the story, please share with others. This is the only way good things happen today–agents and publishers are of the dinosaur era. They’re slow; they’re frightened; and they’ll eat you if you’re not careful. We’re on our own. I truly believe in this book. If you do, too, share it with someone. Thank you!

And thank you so much, again, for being one of the faithful.

    Best regards,
    Roger White
