Tears

.

woman-crying

.

I feel your tears,
my eyes burn.
A cloak of heaviness
descends upon my heart.

I have no words
to console you.
Nothing I can write
will remove your sorrow.

I’ve experienced
the pain of love,
and known the joyousness
that thoughts of love can bring.

You guided me
into this world,
this pendulum, of emotion
that brings heartache and grief;

that also brings
jubilation,
a season of flowers and growth
that makes life worth living.

I sit with you
in soft silence.
I read your words of longing.
I pray for your healing.

  3. Dennis, I’m just getting caught up on some of the blog posts after a busy few weeks. Just came upon this poem and I am glad I did, I think it is lovely. Listeners are important people–I know because many have listened to me and it has meant the world to me, I read somewhere that the most meaningful conversation between two people can also be when no word is ever spoken–they are just “there”. The unspoken words convey so much more than words sometimes.

    1. Hi Elaine, It is always great to hear from you. Us grandparents need to stick together. I’m glad you liked my poem. I’ve suffered enough losses to know that it isn’t the words that help, but the love behind them. I agree, conversations without words are often the most meaninful. ~ Dennis

      1. You know, I think you are right, we may have some things in common. I am thinking about painting as well and I saw your blog. Wow, you are multi-talented. I painted a mural to start out. I don’t know if that counts. :)

    1. Hi Pete, thanks for the complement. It is much appreciated. I enjoyed reading your post “Little things mean a lot”. I’m not a DIY guy, although I can tackle some carpentry. I’m no help with your water problems. In fact we have the same problem. We live in a hundred year old house with a sump pump in the basement. When we have a heavy rain, or when the snow melts in Spring, we have a minor flood.

I envy you in your retirement. ~ Dennis

  11. Oh my! Such lovely words! In situations like this, I become speechless… and if I could hug the person, I would. If only to show what I truly feel. But your poem has captured it. How lovely! Thanks.

    1. Thanks for your kind words. I’m always at a loss for words when others are in pain. Having experienced many tragedies myself, others have given me well intentioned words of support; they didn’t help. Silence, caring, prayer and love are the only things that helped me. If the person is near, a hug is certainly the answer. ~ Dennis
