… space …

There’s a space
on the sidewalk
where a smile once lived
greetings go undelivered
sarcasm left unsaid

my mornings
will be muted
other lives,
many lives,
will be lessened.

we’ll say remember when —
but, memories bring pain
another reminder
of someone
we’ll never see
again

Beautiful…do we ever really get over the loss of a loved one? I still suffer often…I don’t think there’s a time limit on grief.

    1. I agree, when someone has passed it leaves a hole in our heart that can never be filled, yet I still feel her presence. I hope that she has found a place free of pain and suffering.

    1. Joy was a unique individual in a place where most people try to look and act the same. She was a victim of childhood physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Abuse followed her through life, even though she was a fighter. On occasion, she accompanied me when she thought my life was in danger.

Hi Dennis, I am touched by your kindness and attachment to a person that too many would just walk by and barely notice. Keep up the posts please.

    1. I too walked by for years. Wondered why she would accept the abuse and disdain of office workers for so little return. So, I brought her a breakfast sandwich, tea and asked. Those conversations lasted five years, until her death.

      2. Thank you for your kind words. Love is never wasted. I know that it at least distracted her through her final years, hopefully adding some happiness. I am blessed by her presence, even in death.

    1. Thank you so much. Joy was a friend that I sat with nearly every day for five years. I heard her stories, saw her emotions and experienced her pain. It seems so unfair that she was taken from us, however I’m glad that, at least now, she is free from hardship and suffering.
