I’ve Always Wondered…

I’ve always wondered
what my 62-year-old grandfather
was thinking
that Friday
at 1:30 in the afternoon,
when he decided to leave his office
in the courthouse,
where he was County Court Clerk,
to drive out of town,
park on a by-road,
walk to a nearby bush,
pull out his handgun
and shoot himself
through the head.

I’ve always wondered… why?

Perhaps,
one day
he’ll tell me.

  1. Ugh, that is heartbreaking, Dennis! :'( I have a friend who tried to commit suicide multiple times. She was in such a deep depression that she couldn’t see any reason for living. Luckily, she was found in time to save her life each time. She has since found treatment and is back to loving life. It was trial and error until they found what worked for her, but thankfully, they found it. I only wish everyone with suicidal thoughts could find the help they need to find their way back to loving life.

    1. I agree, Yvette, suicide is heartbreaking, especially for other family members. When drinking, my father revealed that he wished he had the courage to take his own life. I knew he kept a Remington 45 in the bedroom closet. This caused me much anxiety and insecurity.
