I reminisce about those days of old. — Bob Seger
Excitement as a child
was seeing the horse-drawn
Co-op Dairy milk wagon.
It was green in color
to differentiate it from
the white McGavin’s bread wagon
and the rose-colored wagon
used by Arthur Rose Cleaners.
Clopping hooves
attracted hordes of children
to pet the horses.
Glen was the name
of the Co-op Dairy horse,
George was the driver.
My mother, an avid gardener,
would occasionally follow the horses
to collect manure for her flower beds,
much to the dismay of my father,
who hoped the neighbors weren’t watching.
It’s funny how I remember this stuff.
